Prerequisite: A willingness to be adventurous and learn something new
Ages: 18+

Requirements: Internet access. A desktop computer or laptop is recommended but a tablet or smartphone can be used.

Mondays, 7:00pm-9:00pm PST, February 1st-March 8th


Instructor: Darren Pitura

Improv 1 is where you will learn the nuts and bolts. Students are introduced to the core concepts of performance improv. These include but are not limited to:

  • Listening

  • Agreement

  • What we mean when we say "yes, and..."

  • Working in an ensemble

  • Character

  • Basic mime

The focus of this class is to prepare you for making creating scenes onstage.

About Darren Pitura

Darren Pitura has been working throughout North America as a comedic and physical theatre actor for over twenty years. A former member of the famed Second City in Las Vegas, he performed as a Lead Clown in Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity and two comedic roles in Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere. Darren was a lead writer and performer for Cirque du Soleil’s premier One Night for One Drop show at the Bellagio's O Theatre. He was a member of Canada's famed sketch and improv troupe, The Spleen Jockeys. The Spleens shared the stage with ABC’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? improviser Greg Proops and opened for David Steinberg, Long John Baldry, and Kim Mitchell, to name a few. They received critical acclaim for their live performances and were featured in CBC National Radio’s Madly Off In All Directions, Canada Eh?, and Manitoba Eh?, CBC’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and The Brent Butt Show on ZeD TV. More recently, he plays the character Stinky in the comedy duo, Stinky and Bunny, and has a regular online show Stinky and Bunny Online. Darren has had success in media as well as a recurring role on SpiegelworldTV's The Gazillionaire web series, doing man on the street interviews for Lions Clubs International, and featured roles in the movies Marathon, Popovich: Road to Hollywood, and Cord.

​Darren is the founder, instructor, and Director of Vegas Theatre Hub, Las Vegas’s premier school for creative performing arts. Darren is a renowned instructor for mime, improvisation, and acting for The Second City, Cirque du Soleil, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Crazy Horse, Vancouver TheatreSports, University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba, and various high schools and community centers. Darren has an honors degree in Theatre from the University of Winnipeg. He studied improvisation with Vancouver TheatreSports and The Second City and refined his clown skills with Leaky Heaven Circus and Spymonkey’s Aitor Basauri.
